Automotive Biometric Seat Technology

Image credited to Kyleigh Hillerud     Assalamualaikum and good day. Welcome back to my blog and for those who are new, please consider subscribing to my blog for more info on Automotive Technology. In this blog, I'm going to share about automotive biometric seat technology and all about it.       Biometric technology began with a fingerprint recognition method to unlock telephones and soon expanded to incorporate face and iris identification. Biometric technology is now gaining prominence as a next-generation technology that improves security while also improving convenience and healthcare. This is the reasoning behind the active usage of biometric technology in the car industry, notably biometric seats.      The Biometric Seat works by monitoring the driver's heart rate, breathing rate, and body temperature via a series of fast-responding sensors. Using this information, the car can provide warnings if it deems that the driver is too...

Exhaust System

Nowadays, every car owner is aware that the exhaust system is part of a car except for EVs. But the question is, do you know about the exhaust system, how does it work and most importantly, what is the function of the exhaust system? In this blog, I'm going to share all the knowledge I've gained through my studies about the exhaust system.

The main functions of the exhaust system are collecting exhaust gasses from the cylinders, removes harmful substances, reducing noise and air pollution by discharging purified exhaust gasses at a suitable point of the vehicle away from the occupants. These helps to reduce noise and air pollution. The exhaust system also affects the car's performance, thus a well-designed system is very crucial.

Well, that is all for the introduction of the exhaust system. Next, I'm going to share each of the main components that can be found in the exhaust system with their functions in the exhaust system.

Exhaust Manifold

Exhaust manifold is the first part of the exhaust system that is connected directly to the engine. The job of the exhaust manifold is to collect exhaust gasses produced by the engine and kite them into one single pipe, so that the gasses can be pass to other components. The exhaust manifold is usually made from cast-iron or stainless steel. There are also custom exhaust manifold that are coated with ceramic or even polished chrome. There are also lots of engine types such as inline engine, v engine, boxer engine, rotary engine and more. This means that the shape of the exhaust manifold are based on the type of the engine.

Catalytic Converter

The catalytic converter looks like a large metal box that you can see under your car. As the image above shows the cross section of the catalytic converter, you can see that the inside are covered with cerium and ceramic honeycomb catalyst structure. These are one of the components inside the catalytic converter that helps to remove harmful gasses from the exhaust such as NOx and CO. Other components in the catalytic converter also helps to convert unburned hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon monoxide into carbon dioxide and water. The catalytic converter plays a big role in the exhaust system due to the increased regulation of air pollution in the automotive industry.

Muffler

The muffler is created to reduce noise that comes from the engine. The fiberglass insulation, stainless scrubble and resonating chambers lessens the sound produced by the engine. The muffler can usually be found at the tip of the exhaust system. There are many type of mufflers that can be found in the automotive industry which can also affects the car's overall performance and fuel efficiency. The negative side of some mufflers are the backpressure it creates and this leads to the engine's performance and the fuel efficiency being reduced. It is important to use the right muffler following the engine's specification.

Finally, this is the end of the main components explanation in the exhaust system. Next, we move on to how the exhaust system works. I understand that some may find it difficult to understand on how the exhaust system works by reading paragraphs or articles. Which is why, I am sharing a video from Automotive System from Youtube on how the exhaust system works so that you could understand it better below. Hope the video helps.

Car exhaust system improves our driving comfort by reducing noise level while keeping us safe from toxic fumes. It is one of the system that is always overlooked, undervalued, but yet so important. We should never drive with a faulty exhaust system as it is dangerous for the car itself and us.

I really hope you gain much information with new knowledge from my blog. Feel free to share your thoughts, suggestions or proposal in the comment box below. Kindly follow my blog for more information on Technology in Automotive.

That is all from me, drive safe and drive smart!
